Trimming Nails. Dirty nails may catch harmful debris and injure the dog. Natural ways to shave nails include adequate exercise and using nail files. When a dog’s paws touch the ground, the nails wear down. Nail files allow for accurate shaving and shorten the nails. Knowing where to trim the nails moves the process along as well. Some dogs have transparent nails that have a pink tint to them. Beware as this is where a blood vessel is located! If not shied away from, the dog will react in pain because the blood vessel is being cut. Opaque nails make it harder to safely trim the nails. If unsure, consult a local veterinarian for safe trimming techniques.
